Starting the Fuel Level Sensor assembly replacement requires users to disconnect the negative Battery Cable. First empty the fuel system pressure while also draining the Fuel Tank content. Use the Fuel Level Sensor lock nut wrench (J 45722) together with a long breaker-bar to unlock the Fuel Level Sensor lock ring yet protect it from damage. Examine the Fuel Level Sensor assembly only by its body to guard against the damage of fuel pipes. The use of impact tools should be avoided because releasing the lock ring needs substantial force yet using a hammer with screwdriver is not appropriate. Fasten down the Fuel Tank to stop its rotational movement. Extract the Fuel Level Sensor assembly before discarding the seal while cleaning the surfaces where it will seal. The sensor assembly needs all its residual fuel drained into secure containers that will minimize fire hazards. A feeler gauge should be used to measure flat surface clearance along the lock ring at seven specified points. A lock ring replacement is necessary when its warpage exceeds 0.41 mm (0.016 in). The Fuel Tank installation should include a new seal and a replacement Fuel Level Sensor gasket which helps reduce fire risks during maintenance. Position the Fuel Level Sensor assembly correctly by setting its strainer at a horizontal angle and avoiding contact with the float arm. The Fuel Level Sensor lock nut wrench (J 45722) allows installation of the lock ring with clockwise rotation but users should ensure the correct side points upward and avoid lubrication of the seal groove. Reinstall the Fuel Tank followed by refilling it then tighten the fuel filler cap and return the negative Battery Cable connection. The leakage check occurs when you turn the ignition on for 2 seconds followed by 10 seconds of off time before a second on cycle.

Starting the replacement of a Fuel Level Sensor requires disconnecting the negative Battery Cable with proper attention to battery disconnect precautions. The first step is to drain the fuel pressure and empty the fuel contained in the tank. The first step includes unattachment of the fuel pump electrical connector along with removing both the Fuel Tank and fuel sender assembly. Remove the electrical connector retaining clip from the Fuel Level Sensor then disconnect its electrical connector which is under the fuel sender cover. The Fuel Level Sensor requires a retaining clip to be removed while users press its locking tangs to uninstall the sensor hardware. Begin the installation process by installing the Fuel Level Sensor while using the retaining clip for its retention. The installation of the Fuel Level Sensor starts with connecting the electrical connector to the sensor followed by attaching its electrical connector retaining clip . Reinstall the fuel sender assembly while hooking up your fuel pump electrical connector followed by the Fuel Tank. First add the necessary fuel into the tank after mounting the fuel cap and restoring the connection of the negative Battery Cable. Perform the leak inspection by turning the ignition on for 2 seconds followed by off for 10 seconds and then on again while examining for fuel leaks.

Using one of two pocket screwdrivers, pull the front retaining tab away from the front of the fuel level sensor while using the second pocket screwdriver to push the fuel level sensor away and down from the fuel sender assembly, then remove the fuel level sensor.
