Injector

A proper Fuel Injector servicing starts with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and reducing fuel system pressure. First remove the upper intake manifold assembly together with the fuel meter body assembly. Service the Fuel Injector as an entire assembly only so remove the injector retainer assembly together with its lock nuts while ensuring safety of the electrical terminals and fuel nozzle components along with the injector filter. Electrical injectors require complete hydration avoidance when cleaning them with any liquid solutions. The removal process requires downward pull force on the poppet nozzle tube together with small tip punch pressure on the injector terminals. You should apply clean engine oil to the new injector o-ring seals before installing them onto the complete assembly. Install first the Fuel Injector assembly in the fuel meter body injector socket followed by installation of the injector assembly retainer along with injector retainer lock nuts which require tightening to 3.0 n.m (27 lb in). After reinstalling the fuel meter body assembly along with the upper intake manifold assembly the technician must tighten the fuel filler cap before reattaching the negative Battery Cable. The leak check process starts with turning the ignition on for 2 seconds followed by an off state of 10 seconds and another turn of the ignition to on. Fuel leakage should be checked at each stage.

Assemble the central secondary fuel injection (SFI) fuel injector assembly into the fuel meter body injector socket.

Lubricate the new injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil and install the O-rings on the injector assembly.

Discard the old injector O-ring seals from both ends of the injector, but save the O-ring backup for reassembly.

Reinstall the injector assembly retainer and tighten the injector retainer lock nuts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).

Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 to the fuel pipe bolt and tighten to 6 N.m (53 lb ft).

Avoid damaging the electrical connector terminals, injector filter, and fuel nozzle, and do not immerse the fuel injector in any liquid solvent or cleaner.

Shut off the pressure valve on the J 41413, bleed off the pressure at the J 44466-10, and disconnect it from the J 44466-12 and J 41413.

Install the engine sight shield and tighten the engine sight shield bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

The fuel injector is serviced as a complete assembly only and should not be immersed in any liquid solvent or cleaner.

Ensure each injector is calibrated for a specific flow rate and order the correct injector for the application being serviced.

Disassemble the lower hold down plate and the nuts, then pull the poppet nozzle tube downward while pushing with a small tip punch between the injector terminals.

Exercise caution to avoid damaging the electrical connector terminals, injector filter, and fuel nozzle.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and relieve the fuel system pressure.
