    Q:
Is it safe to clean the throttle body on those with low mileage, and what precautions should be taken during the procedure on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Deposits can build up on the rear of the throttle valve plate over a long time and mileage, caused by egr gas, which may impact the throttle valve movement; therefore this cleaning procedure cannot be recommended for cars that have their mileage so low, up to 80,450 km (50,000 miles). Before starting, always make sure the ignition is off so that there is no sudden movement of a throttle blade that may lead to personal injury. Begin by pulling out the air intake duct being careful not to stick any tools in the Throttle Body bore so as not to cause damage to the throttle valve plate. Check the bore of Throttle Body and the throttle value plate and the need might arise to open the throttle value to check all surfaces. Do not apply any solvent which contains methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) since it can damage the fuel system components. Clean the Throttle Body bore and throttle valve plate with clean shop towel and proper cleaning material, gm top engine cleaner (P/N 1052626) or ac-delco carburetor tune-up conditioner (P/N X66-P). Finally, reinstall the air intake duct.
