2000 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: Should the ABS Control Module in the brake pressure modulator valve assembly be repaired or replaced for safety reasons on 2000 Buick LeSabre?
A: Brake pressure modulator valve assembly replacement is mandatory because of safety considerations. The only exception is the ebcm where technicians cannot loosen screws because it creates brake leaks which results in personal injury. Turn off the ignition system and raise the vehicle before starting. Raise the vehicle before removing the left front wheel and wheelhouse extension and the air pump (if present). First rotate the ebcm connector tab into the unlocked position and then remove the ebcm connector position assurance attached to the ebcm electrical connector . Disengaging or enganging the ebcm wiring harness connector requires the ignition switch to be in the off position to stop equipment damage. Disconnect the ebcm electrical connector that exists on the ebcm side. Caution: brake fluid may irritate eyes and skin; in case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water for eye contact, wash with soap and water for skin contact, and consult a physician if ingested. Protect the vehicle surfaces from brake fluid leakage since it will damage paint while exercising caution when bending brake pipes when removing or installing the bpmv to prevent lasting destruction. The bpmv requires a record of brake pipe positions to facilitate installation procedures. Remove 2 master cylinder brake pipes and 4 wheel brake pipes from the bpmv then clean any brake fluid spills from the bpmv surface. Use an appropriate tool to loosen and remove the 2 bpmv bracket nuts followed by the ebcm/bpmv assembly from the bpmv bracket . Strip the bpmv electrical connector out of the ebcm device before cleaning the ebcm/bpmv assembly surface. Use a torque wrench to tighten and loosen the 6 ebcm to bpmv screws. A replacement becomes necessary for ebcm units after a failure occurs because the component cannot receive repairs. Disconnect the ebcm component from the bpmv main assembly. Before installing the ebcm into the bpmv ensure both components have clean seal surfaces. Secure the 6 ebcm to bpmv screws into place with a torque of 3.2 nm (28 inch lbs.). Connect the bpmv electrical connector to the ebcm while making sure all 3 rubber isolators rest on the bpmv to shield the ebcm/bpmv assembly from car vibrations. Fasten the ebcm/bpmv assembly to the bpmv bracket and secure its 2 bpmv bracket nuts using 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) torque settings. Avoid wheel lockup and personal injury by making sure brake pipes connect properly to the bpmv. New bpmv installation requires the removal of shipping plugs from its valve openings. Secure both the 4 wheel brake pipes and the 2 master cylinder brake pipes to their installation locations on the bpmv by applying 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) of torque. Never connect or disconnect the ebcm's wiring harness while the ignition switch remains in the on position because it can damage equipment. Fasten the ebcm electrical connector to the ebcm followed by the ebcm connector position assurance to the ebcm electrical connector before turning the ebcm connector tab down to lock it into place. Install the ebcm left front wheelhouse extension (if equipped) followed by the left front wheel. Lower the vehicle before filling and bleeding the hydraulic brake system and performing auto bleed procedure and abs diagnostic system check.
