- Q: How to replace the Front A/C Hose on 2000 Chevrolet Corvette?A: The first step to change the front evaporator tube requires a proper refrigerant recovery method. The upper radiator support and the refrigerant pressure sensor must be removed before you can access the front evaporator tube to condenser retaining bolt. Apply caps or tape immediately to both the open evaporator tube at the front and the condenser unit to stop contamination. The front evaporator tube must be disconnected from the condenser before discarding the O-ring. Moving forward with the replacement process requires removal of the front evaporator tube to rear evaporator tube retaining bolt while properly capping or taping the open evaporator tubes to avoid contamination. Remove the front evaporator tube from the rear tube and discard the installed O-ring. Eliminate cap or tape from evaporator tubes before cleaning both the front and rear evaporator tube surfaces using a lint-free dry cloth. But there should be minimum quantities applied to a new O-ring seal using mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil and this oil must not cross into the refrigerant system. You should position the new O-ring on the front evaporator tube until it sits at its proper position without excessive mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil outside the designated space. Use the retaining bolt to join the front evaporator tube with the rear evaporator tube and tighten it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Thoroughly clean both the front evaporator tube sealing surface as well as the condenser. Next, reinstall the front evaporator tube to the condenser after applying minor refinery oil to its new O-ring. Transfer the new O-ring seal through a thin application of mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil but avoid the entry of oil into the refrigerant system. Then position this O-ring on its designated seat on the front evaporator tube. Secure the front evaporator tube to the condenser through its retaining bolt while torquing it to 27 N.m (20 lb ft). The refrigerant pressure sensor along with the upper radiator support need reinstallation. Complete the evacuation process before conducting a refrigeration charge and perform leakage inspections on the condenser and evaporator tube connections.
