  • Q: How to replace the Rear A/C Hose on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
    A: To replace the rear Evaporator tube, recover the refrigerant and remove part of the following: battery, battery heat shield, and Intake Manifold. Then unfasten the nut holding the heater pipe bracket to the cowl and relocating the bracket to expose the refrigerant lines. Remove the front Evaporator tube from rear Evaporator tube retaining bolt and cap or tape the open Evaporator tube as soon as it is removed. Remove the Evaporator tubes and discard the o-ring, loosen the accumulator hose to Evaporator retaining bolt, capping or taping the open rear Evaporator tube and Evaporator to keep it from becoming contaminated. Remove the rear Evaporator tube from the accumulator hose bracket at the Evaporator hose and throw the o-ring away. For installation, you should remove the cap or tape from the rear Evaporator tube and Evaporator before you use a lint-free clean, dry cloth to clean the sealing surfaces. Gently apply mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil over the new o-ring and see that no oil goes into the refrigeration system, then push new o-rings onto the rear Evaporator tube and onto the Evaporator until they are in place. Securing the rear Evaporator tube with the accumulator hose bracket and the assembly to position with the Evaporator and tighten the accumulator hose to Evaporator retaining bolt up to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Cover off the cap or tape from the front Evaporator tube, cleanse the sealing surface, and lightly coat the o-ring with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil before sliding it in tow front Evaporator till it's seated with only leaving a light coating of refrigerant oil in the indicated region only. Mount the front evap tube onto the rear evap tube with the retaining bolt, and tighten to 25n. M (18 lb ft). Reinstall the heater pipe bracket to the cowl stud and tighten the retaining nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in ), and reinstall the intake mans, battery heat shield and battery. Finally evacuate and charge the fridges system and carry out the leak test on the fittings. Use the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
