2000 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Orifice Tube on 2000 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step when replacing the A/C orifice tube involves recovering every refrigerant has inside the system. Place a cover or tape directly on the open rear evaporator tube to stop contamination before extracting the front evaporator tube to rear evaporator tube retaining bolt. Come off the front evaporator tube from the rear evaporator tube and eliminate the O-ring before you secure the open front evaporator tube using caps or tape. Through the use of needle nose pliers, users should extract the A/C orifice tube by holding its edge without touching the filter screen. Check the A/C orifice tube for defective plastic framing, damaged or torn filter screen or blocked brass orifice as well as metal chip accumulation on the filter screen. Replace if necessary. A new O-ring should be installed when using a tube for another run. Start by removing caps or tape from the front evaporator tube before inserting the A/C orifice tube carefully through its filter screen (long inlet side first) up to the complete insertion in the tube (short filter screen outlet side first). Clear the rear evaporator tube cap or tape afterward you should clean the tube sealing surfaces with a dry lint-free clean cloth. Use mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil to coat the O-ring seal and apply it just below the indicated section while preventing oil from entering the refrigerant system. Put the new O-ring seal on front evaporator tube until it reaches its position while ensuring the indicated area contains a light coat of mineral base 525 oil. Use the retaining bolt to fasten the front evaporator tube onto the rear evaporator tube before tightening it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). The last procedure involves evacuating the refrigerant system and charging it while inspecting evaporator tube joints for any signs of leakage.
