The procedure for replacing the A/C Orifice Tube starts with refrigerant recovery of A/C systems followed by front evaporator tube to rear evaporator tube retaining bolt removal. Prior to disconnect the evaporator tubes, cap and tape all accessible components to block system contamination. Begin by getting rid of the O-ring before applying a necessary cap to the rear evaporator tube. Use the A/C Orifice Tube Remover (J 26549-E) to remove the A/C orifice tube during evaluation seek signs of a broken plastic frame together with a torn or damaged filter screen (1, 2), a damaged or plugged brass A/C orifice tube or filter screen coated with metal chips, flakes or slivers. To reuse the A/C orifice tube you must clean it with low pressure shop air before putting a new O-ring in place. To install this evaporator tube replace the tape or cap from the rear section while guiding the tube starting from its short filter screen outlet end first before completing the installation. You should install new O-rings on the expansion tube before connecting the front evaporator tube to the rear one and reinstalling the retaining bolt while tightening it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). The technician should evacuate and recharge the A/C system before using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) to conduct leak tests on component fittings.

Cap or tape the open rear evaporator tube immediately to prevent contamination.

Remove the cap or tape from the front evaporator tube and fully install the tube (short filter screen outlet side first).

Remove the front evaporator tube to rear evaporator tube retaining bolt and disconnect the front evaporator tube from the rear evaporator tube, ensuring to cap or tape the open A/C components immediately to prevent system contamination.

Using needle nose pliers, carefully grasp the edge of the tube without touching the filter screen and pull to remove it.
