How to Service and Repair Front Dual Piston Brake Calipers on 2000 GMC Jimmy?

You need to empty brake fluid from the caliper and put clean shop towels inside it to start repairing the front dual brake caliper. Keep your fingers always behind the Piston during compressed air work to protect your safety. A light airflow should push the Piston through the bore without harming a damaged Piston. Pull the two pistons from their space in the caliper but keep caliper bores untouched during this operation. Take off the bleeder valve cap then the bleeder valve from the caliper unit. Use a no-alcohol solvent to clean out the bleeder valve and all parts of the caliper including bores, lines and pistons. Dry the parts with filtered compressed air before removing brake fluid from lines. You must replace either the pistons or entire caliper when finding damage from scoring, corrosion, or any scratches on the chrome plating or pitted areas inside the caliper housing. When installing hose seals position them flat into caliper bores after applying brake fluid lubricant onto new parts and new Piston seals. Place the boot seals on top of each Piston before setting the pistons into their caliper installation tubes. Put the boot seals into caliper housing bores through boot seal installer (J 43885). Complete the process by fitting the bleeder valve into the caliper housing and tightening it to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.) before placing the bleeder valve cap.
