2001 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2001 Cadillac Seville?
A: Before replacing the ABS Control Module (ABSCM) users must first turn OFF the ignition followed by raising the vehicle. Take off the left front wheel and left front fascia extension while making sure to clear the space surrounding the ABSCM of loose material so as to avoid contaminating unattached ABS parts. Proceed by washing all ABSCM-related components to the maximum extent before unlatching the ABSCM connector tab and taking off the ABSCM connector position assurance from the ABSCM electrical connector. It is vital to disconnect and connect wires from the ABSCM with the ignition switch at OFF position because it prevents equipment damage. Disconnect the ABSCM electrical connector from the ABSCM unit and the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) electrical connector from the same ABSCM location. You must remove and clean 6 ABSCM to BPMV screws while paying attention to replace the ABSCM when it becomes faulty because ABSCM cannot be fixed. When performing the ABSCM installation the ABSCM should be isolated from the BPMV. For installation clean the BPMV seal surface then attach the ABSCM to the BPMV by tightening the 6 screws to 3.2 Nm (28 inch lbs.). Install the ABSCM connector position assurance to the ABSCM electrical connector then Rotate the ABSCM connector tab down to secure the locked position. Place the left front wheel and fascia extension back before lowering the vehicle. When an ABSCM is not properly programmed it turns on the red brake warning indicator leading to both DTC C1248 and DTC C1255 among other possible inoperative and poorly functioning DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES/VES (if equipped) failures. To replace the ABSCM maintainers must use new software that matches the vehicle model and contact their local dealer for programming. The scan tool should be used for clearing DTCs while performing the ABS Diagnostic System Check.
