- Q: How to Replace Rear Brake Calipers on 2002 Buick LeSabre?A: The first step to replacing the rear brake caliper is to check on the level of fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir and; if it is above the halfway of the maximum-full and the minimum allowable levels, take away fluid until it is. Raise and secure the vehicle, and then spray the tire and assembly. Pull down on the engine front park brake cable and disconnect it from the park brake cable. Apply a large c-clamp to press the Brake Caliper Piston into the caliper bore without inducing more than 1mm (0.039 in) of piston travel to prevent breaking the internal adjusting mechanism. After loosening the c-clamp, plug the holes on the brake caliper and brake hose to avoid losing fluid. Next, undo the brake hose to caliper bolt, disconnect the brake hose from the caliper and throw out the two copper brake hose gaskets. Dismount the park brake cable bracket from brake caliper, leaving the park brake cable attached; take off the park brake cable from the caliper lever. Take out the top brake caliper pin bolt pin and unbolt the brakes caliper at the lower bolt. For installation bring the sleeves of the Brake Calipers retainers to clean before refitting otherwise they use the high temperature silicon lube to lubricate the brake caliper pin bolts then they bring the caliper to be fitted on the upper pin bolt. Rotate the caliper down onto the bracket and apply the pin bolts with 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Remove the plugs from the end of the break hose, install new copper brake hose gaskets and screw the brake hose bolt of the caliper, tightening it to 45 nm (33 ft lbs). Reattach the park brake cable to the lever on the caliper, and install the park brake cable bracket to the caliper, and tighten the bracket bolt to 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the front park brake cable to the connection bleed the other brake system and with the engine off pedal down to roughly 2/3 of travel and then let it go back. Wait for 15 seconds and repeat the answer until a firm pedal is resulted out and ensuring proper seating of the caliper pistons and pads. Lastly, apply the tire and wheel back onto the vehicle and lower it.
