Start by uninstalling every part related to the rear door and remove any leftover sealer from around the existing hinge before marking its position on the hinge pillar. Sand the hinge gently with 100-grit or finer sandpaper until you locate the four door welds. During drilling later on it will be necessary to punch through the weld centers. For each weld mark on the original hinge apply center punching while avoiding contact with the hinge pillar. Drill through the hinge at each punch spot by using a 13 mm (1/2 in) rotabroach hole saw. A chisel can help detach the hinge from its pillar while cleaning the pillar surface to obtain a seamless fit for the service hinge. Place the service hinge inside the scribe marks after which you should center punch each stud location on the hinge pillar based on the positions of the service hinge. Drill 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot holes through each center punch spot before switching to a drill with a size of 11.5 mm (29/64 in) to complete holes at the pilot locations for the studs. All exposed metal surfaces must have approved anti-corrosion primer applied before installing fish wire (GM P/N 15017229) through the hinge and hinge stud hole before extracting it from the pillar conduit. The staff should position the hinge stud GM P/N 15017230 inside the wire end before drawing the wire out while maintaining the stud in place with the help of the hinge. Draw each stud tight through the pillar respectively with the supplied nuts GM P/N 11516746 while performing this operation on all stud positions. Use full-bodied caulk to comprehensively coat the mounting areas before you install the hinge onto the pillar and fasten it with supplied hardware and achieve 25 N.m (18 lb ft) torque. Carefully finish all affected surfaces before application of sealants then restore them as needed before returning all associated elements into place.
