2003 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a refrigerant system on 2003 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Recovery of refrigerant from the system must occur as the first step before initiating accumulator replacement. First unclip the positive Battery Cable from the accumulator cover then disconnect the evaporator hose assembly by unsnapping it from the snap clamp on the cover. Procedure begins by unsnapping the accumulator cover before retrieving it from the accumulator component and the evaporator hose assembly and suction hose. First remove the accumulator by disconnecting its retainer then wiping out all oil from inside it. Prior to installing a new accumulator you should add oil if the accumulator needs replacement. Before installing the evaporator hose assembly onto the accumulator check for damaged sealing washers and replace missing ones because they do not require lube. Screw in the evaporator hose assembly retaining nut to a torque of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Fit the suction hose onto the accumulator followed by a 20 n.m (15 lb ft) torque setting on the suction hose retaining nut. Fitting the accumulator cap into the accumulator requires complete snap fastener engagement before installing the evaporator hose assembly in the snap clamp. Perform a refrigerant system recharge before putting the positive Battery Cable into the clip located on top of the accumulator cover. Complete a leak test on components' fittings which have been repaired or reinstalled by using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
