2004 Cadillac DeVille A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a refrigerant system on 2004 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Before replacing the accumulator you must recover all refrigerant from the system. Start by releasing the positive Battery Cable from its position on top of the accumulator cover then free the snap clamp which holds the evaporator hose to the cover. Start by removing the cover from the accumulator before taking out the evaporator hose nut and hose itself. The accumulator requires the suction hose nut to be removed along with the suction hose after the disposal of both hose sealing washers. Free the retainer after removing the accumulator while draining its stored oil. During new accumulator installation you need to add oil if needed. Install new sealing washers onto both hoses after attaching the evaporator hose to the accumulator while placing the suction hose nut and washer before fastening the hoses to their respective locations. First secure the evaporator hose nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) torque before installing the suction hose and its matching nut set at 20 n.m (15 lb ft). The accumulator cover requires proper attachment to the accumulator only after all snap fasteners have been correctly engaged. Please direct the evaporator hose to the accumulator cover before snapping on the clamp. Refrigerant system recharge begins following the battery clip placement on top of the accumulator cover. The third part of the process involves conducting leak tests on fittings using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
