2003 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Install the Brake Master Cylinder in a vise for repair so you can access the primary Piston on the back of the unit. Put suitable fittings on master cylinder ports that match required flare seat design and let you connect hoses. Direct the transparent hoses from these fittings into the master cylinder reservoir. Insert the reservoir containing delco supreme 11 brake fluid noted as gm p/n 12377967 or its equivalent to the halfway mark or higher from a sealed and clean brake fluid source with both hose ends in the fluid a round smooth tool should be used to push and release the primary Piston down 25 mm (1 inch) multiple times to view fluid exiting the ports. The effort needed to push the primary Piston grows as the air escapes from both pistons but its moving distance shrinks. Repeat this step until liquid exits the ports easily without any trapped air. Drop transparent hoses from the reservoir after completing the bleed process then install the master cylinder cap with diaphragm followed by removal of fittings through ports while wrapping the cylinder in clean cloth to stop brake fluid leaks. Take the master cylinder out from the vise to complete the procedure.
