Start brake caliper overhaul by taking out the front brake caliper unit from the vehicle. Push compressed air at low force through the fluid inlet of the caliper to push out the brake piston. Pull the dust boot seal and piston seal from their places in the caliper with a small wood tool before discarding both items. Unscrew both parts of the bleeder valve then take it away from the caliper . Use denatured alcohol or its equivalent to tidy up the caliper bore and seal areas on the brake piston while removing any friction material from the piston. Use clean air filtered of lubricants to dry these items then examine the caliper housing for mechanical faults and severe rust. During servicing you should attempt to strip away minor rust or corrosion with emery paper but replace the caliper assembly when rust cannot be eliminated or if major damage exists. Replace the caliper piston when any damage like cracks shows up on its surface or when its chrome plating sustains impacts. To install the new piston seal insert delco supreme 11 lubricant supplied by gm p/n 12377967 or canadian p/n 992667 from a sealed brake fluid container before placing the seal inside the caliper fixture. Place the caliper piston into its rightful position and slide in the fresh dust boot seal afterwards. Lock the valve connections to the caliper then mount the brake caliper back onto the vehicle.
