2003 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a Brake Calipers on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Begin brake caliper replacement by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If the fluid is above the half-point between maximum and minimum limits then drain enough fluid until the level reaches the half mark. Put the vehicle on elevators and take out the wheel assembly before the wheel. Use a c-clamp to compress the caliper until the Piston reaches the bore and the caliper can slide off the rotor. Take off the Brake Caliper Bolt from the brake hose and throw away the 2 copper brake washers. First plug the caliper housing and brake hose opening to keep the fluid safe and clean. Next remove the brake caliper bolts while using a wrench if needed to stop the brake caliper from spinning during removal. Check the guide pins joining the caliper bracket and brake boots for flaws and clean both components and guide pins to prevent wear. Before placing the pins into the mounting bracket, coat them properly with silicone brake lubricant and apply the coating to the boots. Tighten the caliper bolts to 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs.) using proper installation tools. Thread the brake hose onto caliper bolt using 2 fresh copper washers before tightening to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Push the wheel lug nuts to their dead ends afterward putting the wheel and tire assembly in place then lower the vehicle while filling the brake cylinder until it reaches proper fluid levels before bleeding the hydraulic system and checking for leaks.
