2005 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2 on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Begin by elevating and supporting the vehicle before starting sensor replacement work. Drain the cooling system first to avoid burns from hot engine coolant that still exists in the water jacket area of the engine. First disconnect the electrical connector from the Knock Sensor and remove the two bolts from the Knock Sensor heat shield followed by sensor removal. During installation avoid adding thread sealant on the sensor threads because the sensor comes with factory-applied coating which could block detonation detection. Attach the new Knock Sensor while torquing it to 19 n.m (14 lb ft). Next, reconnect the heat shield and secure its bolts at 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Complete the electrical connection of the Knock Sensor and proceed with vehicle lowering but first complete the cooling system refill.
