How to Replace Rear Brake Calipers on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?

Before replacing the rear brake caliper check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Low levels require fluid removal but high levels need to be reduced to the midway mark. Place the vehicle on jack stands to lift it. Afterward take off the tire and wheel unit for further work. Place a large c-clamp on the caliper body so its ends contact the rear caliper and outer pad before tightening until the piston moves past the brake rotor. Take out the brake hose to caliper bolt and brake hose end with a 2-gasket package. Properly discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets which may remain stuck to their connections. Seal the brake caliper and brake hose openings first before unscrewing the 2 brake caliper bolts and removing the park brake cable to take off the brake caliper from its bracket. Check caliper slide boot damage before you attach the brake caliper to its bracket. Install the 2 brake caliper pin bolts and tighten them to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.). Put back the park brake cable and take off its caps before installing new copper hose gaskets and then fasten the brake hose with a 50 nm torque (37 ft. Lbs.). Press the brake gently until the pedal reaches 2/3 of stroke and let it go before repeating to place brake pistons and pads correctly. Put back the tire and wheel components and then lower the car before pressing and releasing the park brake lever four times.
