2005 Chevrolet Venture Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 on 2005 Chevrolet Venture?
A: To remove the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 you must use the j 39194-b heated Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194-B) to avoid breaking the pigtail which connects between the ho2s and Oxygen Sensor (O2S) because sensor functionality will be compromised when these wires are separated. Proper handling of the Oxygen Sensor includes preventing drops and maintaining the in-line electrical connector and louvered end free of all contaminants and grease and dirt. Do not attempt repairs on damaged pigtail wiring or connectors or terminals because replacement of the Oxygen Sensor is needed. Also avoid using cleaning solvents in this process. The avoidance of contact cleaner application on sensor or harness connectors and proper wire and pigtail maintenance and protection protects the air reference integrity and sensor performance. You should not take off the Oxygen Sensor ground wire because proper sensor operation might depend on its presence. The peripheral seal on the vehicle harness connector must stay intact to block water intrusion while using packard's crimp and splice seals terminal repair kit when needed instead of soldering the components. Make sure to remove the heated Oxygen Sensor only when the engine reaches 48°c (120°F) or higher because lower temperatures can harm the Exhaust Manifold or pipe threading. First shut off the ignition to start the process of sensor removal by using the j 39194-b tool for backing out the heated Oxygen Sensor while disconnecting the electrical connector. Install the heated Oxygen Sensor by applying anti-seize compound gm p/n 5613695 (GM P/N 5613695) or its equivalent to the sensor threads to simplify future removal procedures. Start by installing the heated Oxygen Sensor while keeping it at 41 n.m (30 lb ft) torque for the ho2s 1 (pre-catalytic converter) position. Reconnect the sensor electrical connector and return the vehicle to the ground.
