When the strut has free movement the spring should be compressed before you begin turning the spring compressor's forcing screw to achieve spring compression. You can remove the upper strut mount nut by fitting the strut rod nut socket (J 35669) onto the strut shaft while using a 45 torx® socket. Execute the strut spring compressor (J 45400) forcing screw adjustment to extract the upper strut mount and coil spring from within the compressor housing. Place the coil spring together with the upper strut mount inside the strut spring compressor (J 45400) then compress the spring before installing the strut assembly. Install the strut retaining nut loosely then secure the strut shaft with a 45 torx® socket while tightening the upper strut mount nut using the strut rod nut socket (J 35669) until it reaches 85 nm of torque (63 ft. Lbs.). Discard the strut from the strut spring compressor (J 45400) while installing the entirety back into the vehicle.
