- Q: How to Replace Rear Brake Calipers on 2006 Buick Rendezvous?A: Begin replacing the rear brake caliper only when the brake master cylinder reservoir shows above half its capacity. Support the car using jacks to get a safe working position. Then discard the tire and wheel assembly. Press two hub nuts into place to connect the rotor with its hub followed by clamping the large c tool onto the brake caliper top. Tighten the clamp to push the brake piston into the caliper until the assembly can slide off the rotor. Free the brake hose end and brake bolt by removing both but keep the two copper brake hose gaskets that may stick to the components. Close the brake caliper and hose ports to hold fluid inside before cleaning the area around the brake hose fitting. Separate the brake caliper bolts (1,3) and uninstall the brake caliper from its bracket. Check the caliper bracket bolt boot for damage and replace it if necessary. Put on the brake caliper bolt bushings and boots before fitting the brake caliper onto its bracket. Use oil to coat the brake caliper bolt shaft but avoid putting it on the thread surfaces. Apply oil also inside the brake caliper bolt boots present in the bracket. Install brake caliper bolts at 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.) before putting a flat tool under the brake caliper bolt shoulder to install the bracket boot correctly. Put new copper brake hose gaskets into position between the brake hose and hose bolt before attaching the brake hose bolt and the hose. Add the brake hose bolt to the brake caliper while taking away the rotor nuts from the hub before putting on tire and wheel. Place the car on its proper height then fill the master cylinder to its target reservoir and release air from the brake lines. Test the hydraulic brake system by pushing the brake pedal 778 nm (175 ft. Lbs) ten seconds and look for leaks in the brake caliper and brake lines.
