2006 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2006 Cadillac DTS?
A: You should start the right Timing Chain replacement process by taking out the tensioner before removing the cmp sensor and right Camshaft cover. Install the Camshaft holding tool (J44212) over the camshafts when both sprocket drive pins reside at peak rotation position. Discard the mechanics wire supporting the right Timing Chain shoe then disconnect the engine front cover bolt. A hex cast in the Camshaft must be stabilized with an open end wrench before you can take out the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket bolt. To remove the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket from the Camshaft first remove it from its position before pulling the right Timing Chain loose from the intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. The right Timing Chain installation requires lowering it between the right Cylinder Head and the right intake Camshaft sprocket before looping it over the Camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth outer row. Place the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket into the right Timing Chain then connect it to the Camshaft so the sprocket's designated re notch lines up with the exhaust Camshaft pin. An open end wrench should return to prevent rotation as you torque the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket bolt to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). After installing the right Timing Chain tensioner users must eliminate the Camshaft holding tool (J44212) then complete the work with right Camshaft cover first followed by the cmp sensor.
