• Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2007 Buick Lucerne?

  A: To keep the valve from falling during service the engine must be positioned at top dead center. First disconnect the valve Rocker Arm(s) and push rod(s) then take out the spark plugs. Clamp the valves closed using the Spark Plug port adapter part j 23590 while compressed air enters the Spark Plug port. Use the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to compress the valve spring before you uninstall the valve locks and then the valve spring assembly with its cap. Finish by taking off the Valve Stem Oil Seal. Put the replacement Valve Stem Oil Seal into place by hand pressure until it touches the entire valve guide. Put the oil seal onto the valve guide using the valve stem seal installer tool j 42863. Reinsert the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to pressurize the valve spring before putting back the valve spring and cap. Finally, position the valve locks securely into place. Open the valve spring while you replace the Spark Plug port adapter j 23590 and put back the spark plugs with push rods and valve rocker arms.
