• Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2008 Buick Lucerne?

  A: By rotating the engine to its highest position at top dead center you can stop the valve from entering the cylinder while working on it. Start the job by taking out valve rocker arms and push rods and then unscrewing the spark plugs. Insert the j 23590 Spark Plug port adapter into the spark port and use compressed air to keep the valves from entering the chamber. Up to the compressor j 38606 (Valve Spring Compressor), attach it to the valve spring. Use the tool to squeeze the spring and push off the valve locks, valve spring, cap, and Valve Stem Oil Seal. Press the new oil seal onto the valve stem until it fits the valve guide surface. Next use the j 42863 tool to press the seal deeply onto the guide. Position the valve spring compressor j 38606 back onto the valve, compress it, put in the valve spring and cap lastly the valve locks while verifying good seating. Put aside j 23590 before putting in the spark plugs as you release the valve spring. Put back the push rods and valve rocker arms.
