2007 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster (RHD) on 2007 Cadillac CTS?
A: Remove the left insulator before taking off the Pushrod retaining clip and Pushrod from the Brake Pedal assembly. When possible take off the cross vehicle brace while keeping brake pipes connected to the master cylinder. You must take the master cylinder away from the vacuum Brake Booster and put it aside. To reach the locking tab of the vacuum Brake Booster you need to remove the air inlet grille panel. The coolant surge tank outlet hose and drain work are unnecessary during this job. Move the coolant surge tank aside by disconnecting the inlet hose and bolts then reconnecting the inlet hose to keep the system free of coolant. Install the Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) on the vacuum Brake Booster using master cylinder retaining nuts next to disconnecting its check valve. With a flat-bladed tool press the locking tab down and turn the vacuum booster counterclockwise using the Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B). Start by taking out the vacuum Brake Booster from its attachment on the cowl and secure it at a safe position then push the foam filter all the way into its slot to reveal the retaining clip . Press the long side of the retaining clip upwards to take out the Pushrod from the booster. Keep the inner parts disabled and avoid unstaking the housing when you fit it. Check the booster and plate mounting flanges for damage and replace them when required. Use the vacuum Brake Booster to fit on top of the Pushrod with the long retainer clip leg placed in the correct groove. Place the Brake Booster against the cowl mounting flange in counterclockwise direction before turning it clockwise using a ratchet installed on the Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B). Employ the tool rather than a flat blade. After installation you should take out the Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) to reconnect the vacuum hose and check valve assembly. Place back the coolant surge tank, air inlet grille panel, and master cylinder to the vacuum Brake Booster. Reattach the overhead brace when needed and put the Brake Booster Pushrod back into the Brake Pedal assembly while connecting its retaining clip. The left insulating panel should be installed last.
