2008 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the camshaft on the right side (LP1, LY7) on 2008 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The right side Camshaft replacement process (LP1, LY7) starts with upper and lower Intake Manifold removal before Camshaft cover and sensor removal followed by intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid removal. The next step requires removal of both Camshaft cover and Camshaft sensors and then removing the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid. The crankshaft balancer must be rotated in a clockwise manner to reach a Camshaft neutral stage where flats become parallel with the Camshaft cover rail. Keep the Camshaft position actuator bolt loose by using an open-end wrench on the Camshaft hex and preventing rotation. Set free the legs of the en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool (EN-48313) so they can move back and insert it between the Camshaft actuators with its uppermost line positioned close to the Cylinder Head surface. After inserting the en-48313 between the Camshaft actuators with its upper line facing the Cylinder Head you should rotate the t-shaped handle to expand the tool legs until the feet touch the Timing Chain links but still remain in link pockets which will stop the chain from slipping. Secure the en-48313 by hand tightening it then finish securing it with an open-end wrench at its hex portion. The operator should rotate the camshafts to release chain tension while making a marking on the Timing Chain along with the Camshaft position actuators for future assembly references. Start by unfastening the Camshaft position actuator bolt and proceeding to take out the Camshaft bearing caps along with the Camshaft itself. Installation begins by making the Camshaft position actuators match the Timing Chain marks after which Camshaft position actuators should be attached to camshafts before bearing caps and camshafts get installed. Unfasten the en-48313 by using an open-end wrench to prevent Camshaft rotation and install and tighten the Camshaft position actuators. The workshop sequence ends with reinstallation of the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid followed by Camshaft sensors and Camshaft cover with both upper and lower intake manifolds.
