2008 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the battery cables on the LC3 - 8 Cyl, 4.4L, SC, DOHC on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: The first step to replace battery positive and negative cables on the lc3 - 8 cyl, 4.4l, sc, dohc begins with disconnecting the battery negative cable. Widen the battery positive cable nut and detach the positive cable from its battery housing. Start by removing the battery positive cable nut from the fuse/relay center as well as disconnecting the battery positive cable lead from the stud on the center. The battery negative cable needs its stud-based nut removed for frame rail disconnection. The procedure continues with removing the Battery Cable bolt that simultaneously disconnects the battery negative cable and engine harness ground pack connected to the right rear cylinder head. Start by removing the supercharger and disconnect the starter jumper wiring harness from its connection on the engine harness connector. Unlock the positive battery terminal nut along with disconnection of electrical contact areas from the starter solenoid. Unplug the battery positive/starter cable from the generator through boot removal and terminal separation from the stud after disconnecting the cable nut. Detach first the battery positive cable routing clip bolt followed by the assembly of battery positive and negative cables. The installation process starts with attaching the battery positive and negative cable assembly. Connect the battery positive/starter/generator cable to the generator through stud installation of the cable terminal positioning the wire at the 2 and 4 o'clock mark before applying a terminal nut tightened to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Apply the boot to cover the stud as well as the nut. The operator should connect the positive Battery Cable routing clip bolt to the front of the engine by tightening it to a torque of 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Before installing the positive cable terminal double-check that engine harness wires are situated on the solenoid. Install the large battery positive cable terminals and large nut to the starter solenoid while tightening both hardware pieces to 12 n.m (106 lb in) and 4 n.m (35 lb in) torques. The starter jumper wiring harness should be attached to the engine harness connector followed by supercharger reinstallation. First position the negative cable along with ground pack of the engine harness to the right rear cylinder head then bolt the cable while torquing it to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Place the negative Battery Cable on the frame rail stud before installing the negative Battery Cable to frame rail nut and tightening it to 11 n.m (97 lb in). Use the battery clips while putting the positive Battery Cable lead onto the fuse/relay center stud before tightening its corresponding nut to 12 n.m (106 lb in). Fasten the stud cover to the fuse/relay center then join the positive Battery Cable to the battery while tightening the nut to 8 n.m (71 lb in). It is time to connect the negative Battery Cable.
