2008 Chevrolet HHR Air Bag Clockspring Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Process for replacing or removing the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable requires straightening the front wheels and putting the Steering Wheel in its centered position. Disable the sir system. Begin by removing the inflatable restraint wheel module followed by both Steering Wheel and Steering Column Cover components. Disconnect sir coil module assembly connections between the sir coil harness, headlamp/turn signal harness and wiper/washer harness. Slide the sir coil assembly off the Steering Column by using a small flat-bladed tool to gently pry and release the two retaining tabs located at the base of the assembly. Take out both the headlamp/Turn Signal Switch and wiper washer switch from the sir coil module assembly. When installing the wiper washer switch should be followed by the headlamp/Turn Signal Switch so secure the screws onto the sir coil module assembly. Place the Steering Column at the center of the sir coil then fit the sir coil assembly onto the Steering Column before subjecting it to the snap-lock. Connect the wiper/washer harness to the sir coil module assembly and then join the headlamp/turn signal harness to this module before attaching the sir coil harness. The necessary installation includes Steering Column covers and the Steering Wheel followed by installation of the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module. Finally, enable the sir system.
