2008 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power vacuum brake booster on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Before replacing the power vacuum Brake Booster you must disconnect the negative battery terminal. To empty the Brake Booster vacuum reserve push the Brake Pedal several times until the brake becomes solid. Separate the vacuum sensor electrical connection if present while you pull the vacuum power Brake Booster check valve and its hose out of the vacuum booster grommet. Move the electrical components without disconnecting wiring harnesses before you take out the underhood electrical center bracket. Unplug the brake fluid level indicator sensitivity connection and unscrew the master cylinder nuts. Disconnect the Clutch Master Cylinder hose fast connection from the Clutch Master Cylinder when present and plug the clutch hose outlet while capping the Clutch Master Cylinder inlet to block brake fluid loss. Take the master cylinder out of its place without disconnecting the brake pipe fittings. Support it using heavy mechanics wire. Take out the instrument panel insulator and detach the Brake Pedal pushrod nut along with washer and pushrod from the Brake Pedal pivot pin. Take out the vacuum Brake Booster nuts and power brake vacuum booster. During replacement assess if the power brake vacuum booster gasket sustains damage. Begin by installing the power brake vacuum booster gasket before putting on the power brake vacuum booster and tightening both nuts to 22 n.m (16 lb ft). Put diorite gm p/n 12345996 grease over the Brake Pedal pushrod base and join it to the Brake Pedal pivot pin. Install the Brake Pedal pushrod washer and nut before tightening it to 10 n.m torque. Examine the master cylinder seal to be sure it remains undamaged and fits properly on its groove. Attach the master cylinder to the brake power vacuum booster unit and connect the clutch hose quick connector to its matching port when equipped. Install and tighten the master cylinder nuts to 22 n.m (16 lb ft). Fit the Brake Booster grommet's check valve and hose assembly into the vacuum power Brake Booster and secure it with denatured alcohol when needed as an assembly helper. Also link the vacuum power Brake Booster vacuum sensor electrical connector if available. Complete the assembly by connecting the brake fluid indicator switch electrical connector then placing and securing the electrical center with the control modules on the underhood bracket while reestablishing the battery negative cable connection.
