2008 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear parking brake cable (Disc) on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The replacement of the parking brake rear cable (Disc) starts by eliminating the console rear trim plate. Position the park brake lever in its completely open state before you begin loosening the adjusting nut which relieves tension on the front cable. First release the appropriated rear park brake cable end from its position at the cable equalizer and then use proper elevation and support to lift the vehicle. The maintenance will either require detachment of the cable from the underbody retainer through tab release or complete removal of the hardware when replacing the cable assembly. The C-shaped retainer on the park brake cable must be carefully prised from its position on the bracket at the rear axle trailing arm pivot before removing the cable along with the guide tube. To proceed remove the wheel assembly and tire while releasing the park brake cable end from the caliper lever. Depress the retaining tabs of the cable fitting with a flat-bladed screwdriver to free it from the bracket. Begin by removing the bolt that holds the park brake cable guide before removing the cable itself. A park brake cable insertion into the caliper bracket should precede cable bracket installation with a retaining bolt which reaches 10 N.m (89 lb in) torque. After that, secure the cable fitting into the bracket with tabs fully locked in position and connect the cable end to the caliper park brake lever. The park brake cable should be inserted into the cable guide tube before installing the C-shaped retainer onto the bracket at the rear axle trailing arm pivot. Utilize the underbody retainer for new cable installations while existing cable replacements should marry the cable to the underbody retainer and press the tab for attachment. After lowering the vehicle technicians must install the park brake cable end at the equalizer and adjust its tension before placing the console rear trim plate.
