- Q: How to replace the LH Exhaust Heat Shield (LY7) (3.6L) on 2009 Cadillac SRX?A: The initial step to replace the left side exhaust manifold heat shield (LY7) (3.6L) requires installation of j 42640 (Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin) onto the Steering Column. Start by removing the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts after raising the vehicle. To remove the shield access space the technician should first disconnect the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft before removing the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt. Begin by removing the exhaust manifold heat shield and proceed to remove upper and lower exhaust manifold shield insulators which serve the exhaust gasket and the oil level indicator tube (if required). Begin installation with the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator positioning on the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket before you place the upper insulator onto the oil level indicator tube if required. Drop the exhaust manifold heat shield into place and fasten the lower heat shield bolt but maintain it loose. The installation process requires lowering the vehicle to insert the upper exhaust manifold shield bolts which should get tightened to 10 nm (89 lb in). During this task raise the vehicle to torque both the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt and exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to a torque of 10 nm (89 lb in). Disconnect the j 42640 tool before reuniting the center intermediate shaft with the lower intermediate shaft while lowering the vehicle.
