2009 Cadillac STS Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the camshaft on the right side (LP1, LY7) (3.6L) on 2009 Cadillac STS?
A: Starting the replacement of the right side Camshaft on 3.6l (LP1/LY7) vehicles requires initial removal of upper and lower intakes followed by Camshaft cover unattachment. The Camshaft sensors along with the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid need to be detached before proceeding. When rotating the crankshaft balancer clockwise ensure to stop the camshafts in a neutral position with their flats aligned parallel to the Camshaft cover rail. Apply an open-end wrench to the hex of the Camshaft but keep it from spinning to break loose the Camshaft position actuator bolt. Insert the en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool between the Camshaft actuators by retracting its legs while placing the top line next to the Cylinder Head. Turn the t-shaped handle of the en-48313 clockwise to expand its legs partially until the feet touch the Timing Chain and simultaneously ensure that one of the feet inserts itself into a link pocket to avoid slippage. Begin with hand-tightening the en-48313 before using an open-end wrench on the t-handle to secure it. The en-48313 installation is complete when the camshafts are slowly turned towards one another to release tension in the chain. Mark down the Timing Chain placement together with the location of the Camshaft position actuators before taking out the Camshaft position actuator bolt and the Camshaft bearing caps and Camshaft itself. The installation process begins with aligning the camshafts to the Cylinder Head followed by Camshaft actuator assembly; after which the bearing caps and camshafts are installed. Reposition the en-48313 along with the Camshaft position actuator assembly installation and finally reestablish the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid together with the Camshaft sensors. The last installation step includes placing back the Camshaft cover along with the upper Intake Manifold installed on top of the lower one.
