2008 Cadillac STS Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the camshaft on the right side (LP1, LY7) on 2008 Cadillac STS?
A: To change the Camshaft on the right side (LP1, LY7), you should start out by removing the upper intake as well as the lower Intake Manifold. If this is done, be certain to remember to take off any accessories connected to the Intake Manifold to make removal simpler. Next, remove the Camshaft cover and the Camshaft sensors. Then, remove the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid. Only rotate the crankshaft balancer in further clockwise direction with the crankshaft balancer bolt to locate the camshafts in neutral position, i.e. A situation where the Camshaft flats are parallel to the Camshaft cover rail. Use an open end wrench on the Camshaft hex to prevent rotation and can be loosed up the Camshaft position actuator bolt. Pull out the en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool (EN-48313) so as to retract its legs, and place it between the Camshaft actuators, making sure that the top line of the tool aligns with the Cylinder Head. Partially rotate the legs of the en-48313 (until the feet have contact with the Timing Chain, and the foot rests in a link pocket, thus not slipping). Hand-tighten the en-48313, and apply an open end wrench toward the hex built into the body of the tool to lock it in. Twist the camshafts towards one another to make slack on the chain that ensure the Timing Chain and Camshaft position actuators are labeled for suitable assembly. Do not remove Camshaft bearing caps and the Camshaft until you have unscrewed the bolt on the Camshaft position actuator. For installation, adjust the Camshaft position actuators and notes of timing chains, assembly the Camshaft actuators with the camshafts, and fix the camshafts and bearing caps. Remove the en-48313s with an open-end wrench that does not allow rotation while installing and tightening the Camshaft position actuators. Last, reinstall intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid, Camshaft sensors, Camshaft cover, and lower Intake Manifold with upper Intake Manifold.
