2008 Cadillac STS Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the camshaft on the right side of the LLT engine (Gas, 6 Cyl, 3.6L, Sidi, V6, Alum) on 2008 Cadillac STS?
A: The procedure to handle the Camshaft replacement on the right side of the llt engine (Gas, 6 Cyl, 3.6L, Sidi, V6, Alum) requires initial removal of the Intake Manifold alongside the Camshaft cover. Extract both Camshaft sensors together with the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid. Angle the crankshaft balancer to turn clockwise until Camshaft flats match up with the Camshaft cover rail at the natural position. The Camshaft position actuator bolt requires an open-end wrench at the hex to avoid rotation before loosening the bolt. Use en-48313 (Timing Chain Retention Tool) to unfasten its retractable legs before placing the tool between Camshaft actuators with its top markings by the cylinder head. The legs of the en-48313 must be partially extended until they reach the Timing Chain while the foot needs to fit securely into a link pocket to prevent unwanted chain movement. The en-48313 should be hand tightened first and then further fastened with an open-end wrench on the t-handle dimension. Use camshafts to generate tension on the chain while making certain to mark the relationship between the Timing Chain and the Camshaft position actuators for installation purposes. First remove the Camshaft position actuator bolt before you take out the Camshaft bearing caps along with the Camshaft. The installation requires Camshaft position actuator markings to line up with the Timing Chain (and then) the Camshaft actuators must be installed onto the camshafts before the camshafts along with bearing caps can be installed. Install and tighten the Camshaft position actuators after discarding the en-48313 component. The installation includes reattachment of the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid along with the Camshaft sensors followed by the Camshaft cover and lastly the Intake Manifold.
