2009 Cadillac XLR Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: Place the ignition switch into the off position and pedal the brake multiple times until the pedal feel becomes firm to drain the power vacuum Brake Booster vacuum reserve. Through a thorough cleaning process you should eliminate all the dirt and debris from the master cylinder reservoir and body. Before removal of the brake fluid dispose of both the brake fluid in the reservoir and detach the electrical connector of the brake fluid level indicator switch. Cap the master cylinder secondary brake pipe fitting while also plugging the outlet port of the master cylinder to maintain fluid integrity. Also remove the primary brake pipe fitting following the same procedure. Locate the master cylinder nuts and detach them before removing the master cylinder from the power vacuum Brake Booster. You should take out the brake fluid level indicator switch and master cylinder reservoir when needed. When reinstalling the system start by putting back the reservoir if it needed removal during installation. Master cylinder bleeding should take place at the bench followed by installation of the brake fluid level indicator switch if it was taken out. Connect the master cylinder to the power vacuum Brake Booster while installing its master cylinder nuts with 18 nm (13 lb ft) torque specifications. Torque the primary brake pipe fitting to 24 nm (18 lb ft) and then torque the secondary brake pipe fitting to the same value of 24 nm (18 lb ft). Reattach the electrical connection for the brake fluid level indicator switch before performing the required bleeding procedure on the hydraulic brake system.
