2009 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: Start by raising and supporting the vehicle before you can replace the front brake hose. Take off the tire and wheel, and be sure to wipe away any dirt from the brake hose and brake pipe end. Screw on a rubber cap or a plug onto the brake pipe fitting to stop any brake fluid from getting out and keep dirt out. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose using a back up wrench, and watch that you do not bend the brake pipe or bracket. Start by taking off the brake hose retainer and then the brake hose from the hose bracket, then unscrew the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and remove the brake hose from the brake caliper. Be sure to scrap the two copper brake hose gaskets that are usually stuck to the caliper or hose end. To install, fit the new copper gaskets to the brake hose and line them up with the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt, then tighten to 45 nm (33 lb ft). Make sure the brake hose is straight and not twisted as you install it on the hose bracket, then fix the retainer onto the brake hose fitting. Take off the rubber plug or cover from the brake pipe and put the brake hose on using a back up wrench, tightening to 18 nm (13 lb ft). Put the tire and wheel back in place, bleed the brakes, and then lower the vehicle.
