2009 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Start the Power Steering Pump replacement by loosening the Drive Belt from the pump yet leaving the pump in the engine compartment and placing it aside. The procedure should begin with a complete drain of remote power steering fluid from its reservoir before you place containers under the vehicle to catch any fluid. The Power Steering Pump operation requires workers to first tighten the Power Steering Reservoir outlet hose clamp and remove the Power Steering Reservoir outlet hose and power steering gear inlet hose from their positions on the pump respectively. Unbolt the Power Steering Pump at its mounting points while removing the assembly through the right wheelhouse opening by transferring the power steering pulley if required. The installation process requires inserting the Power Steering Pump through the right wheelhouse area followed by Power Steering Pump bolt installation at 50 nm (37 lb ft). Fasten the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump by torquing it to 25 nm (18 lb ft). A compressed Power Steering Reservoir clamp enables the installation of the outlet hose between the reservoir and pump. After removing residual power steering fluid from the car vacuum the drain pans out then put on the Drive Belt. During the last stage of maintenance you should complete the power steering system filling and bleeding procedures.
