2009 GMC Yukon Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on a 2500 Series on 2009 GMC Yukon?
A: The brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level must be checked before starting on a 2500 series vehicle. Pads will have a smooth replacement process when you achieve the middle zone mark between maximum and minimum lines. Place vehicle lift under the car and roll over the tires to take out the assembly. Use two large c-clamps to push brake caliper pistons back into the caliper housing until the pistons fully retract. Place the c-clamps parallel over the caliper housing against the back of the outboard pad. Secure the brake caliper with strong wires to shield the hydraulic brake hose when working. Afterward uninstall the brake caliper bolts holding its position on the bracket then hang it using wire. Discard all old retaining springs when replacing the brake pads into the caliper bracket. Check the brake caliper condition before putting new Brake Pad retaining springs on along with new pads onto the caliper bracket. Reinstall the caliper to its bracket by tightening the bolts to a torque value of 108 nm (80 lb ft). Set the wheel back in its place and lower the vehicle. Use an engine-free method to press the brake gently to 2/3 of its range before letting go. Keep stepping on the brake pedal to accomplish complete piston and pad seating. Complete the brake fluid reservoir using clean fluid and then work the brake pads and rotors into shape.
