2010 Cadillac STS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft (with JL7) on 2010 Cadillac STS?
A: Initiate intermediate Steering Shaft replacement (JL7) by straightening front wheels at the steering wheel followed by engine ignition activation with power systems off. Use tape to connect the upper intermediate Steering Shaft to the upper intermediate Steering Shaft actuator boot in order to prevent them from moving independently. Wipe away the bolt holding the lower intermediate Steering Shaft before pulling the lower intermediate Steering Shaft away from the steering gear. Jointly remove upper intermediate steering shafts with lower steering shafts as assemblies through the passenger compartment before removing intermediate Steering Shaft bolt. Check that upper intermediate Steering Shaft remains fastened through the tape before you divide the lower from the center intermediate Steering Shaft using suitable lubrication if needed. Remove the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt after separating the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the center intermediate Steering Shaft. Evacuate the center intermediate Steering Shaft from the upper intermediate Steering Shaft. Join the center intermediate Steering Shaft to the upper intermediate Steering Shaft after which install the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt with torque set at 30 nm (22 lb ft). Secure the intermediate Steering Shaft to the center intermediate Steering Shaft and attach the Steering Shaft bolt with 30 nm torque (22 lb ft). After proper installation of the intermediate Steering Shaft seal you should check its lip for complete visibility encompassing the entire circumference with no wrinkles or folds since improper installation could lead to steering noise and unwanted resistance. Insert the combination of lower intermediate Steering Shaft and upper Steering Shaft and lower Steering Shaft through the passenger compartment before affixing the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering gear with a 50 nm (37 lb ft) torque. After removing tape from the upper intermediate Steering Shaft and boot you can install the Steering Column before running the diagnostic system check.
