Cadillac STS Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on Cadillac STS?
A: Begin the lower intermediate Steering Shaft replacement process by first ensuring the vehicle's front wheels face straight ahead and that the Steering Column remains in lock position to avoid damaging the sir coil assembly. Use Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J42640) to lock the Steering Column. Raise and support the vehicle. Record the fit between the center intermediate shaft and lower intermediate shaft that will guide the installation process. Move the retaining bolt connecting the center intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft before removing the retaining bolt which connects the lower intermediate shaft to the power steering gear. First cut the lower intermediate shaft loose from the power steering gear before removing it from the center intermediate shaft. Install the lower intermediate shaft by first connecting it to the center intermediate shaft and afterwards to the power steering gear. Secure both components with torque wrenches: bolt 1 to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and bolt 2 to 30 nm (23 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle before removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J42640) through the lower Steering Column trim cover access hole.
