- Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Cadillac STS?A: Replace the lower intermediate Steering Shaft by first steering the front wheels straight ahead then locking the Steering Column with the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640). Support the vehicle while observing how the center intermediate shaft fits with the lower intermediate shaft. Start by removing two retaining bolts - first separate the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft then disconnect the lower intermediate shaft from the power steering gear. Sever the lower intermediate shaft connection from the power steering gear before removing it away from the center intermediate shaft. First connect the lower intermediate shaft to the center intermediate shaft before linking it to the power steering gear during installation. Thread the retaining bolt onto the power steering gear first before securing both components at 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque. Then install the retaining bolt on the center intermediate shaft and secure it to 30 n.m (23 lb ft). Drive the vehicle lower while removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) by accessing the lower Steering Column trim cover access hole.
