2007 Cadillac STS Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Cadillac STS?
A: Starting the intermediate Steering Shaft replacement requires wheel alignment and a lock position on the Steering Column to safeguard the sir coil assembly from misalignment or damage. Fit the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the lower Steering Column trim cover access hole while using the front wheels alignment set by turning the steering wheel. Start by lifting the vehicle before you unfasten the three connecting bolts. The order begins with the upper to center intermediate shaft bolt followed by removal of the lower intermediate shaft to power steering gear bolt. The separation of the lower intermediate shaft from the power steering gear requires drivers to record its relationship with the center and upper intermediate shafts before reassembly. You must perform upper intermediate shaft to center intermediate shaft disconnection followed by removal of this assembly with lower intermediate shaft still attached. It's vital to record the center shaft and lower shaft relationship before removing the lower to center intermediate shaft retaining bolt. After removing the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft. After fitting the lower intermediate shaft on the upper intermediate shaft complete installation by tightening the lower to center intermediate shaft retaining bolt to 30 n.m (23 lb ft) while maintaining the removal orientation notes. Secure the center intermediate shaft to the upper intermediate shaft then install the center to upper intermediate shaft retaining bolt and properly torque it to 30 n.m (23 lb ft). Install the lower intermediate shaft to power steering gear retaining bolt then tighten it to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Drop the vehicle then extract the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the opening in the Steering Column lower trim cover.
