  Disabling the sir system must happen before servicing either the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable. The Steering Wheel module coil has its yellow 2-way wiring connector at the column base. Remove the cpa from this connector then unplug it. Start by eliminating the upper and lower shrouds then move on to the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module and Steering Wheel. To remove the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil from the Steering Shaft the wire harness straps must be taken off from the Steering Wheel column wire harness and the retaining ring needs removal. Installation starts when you position the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil onto the Steering Shaft and use the retaining ring for attachment. Center the coil while directing the lower coil wire harness inside the Steering Column jacket. Move back the wire harness straps onto the Steering Wheel column wire harness and these are followed by installation of the Steering Wheel and inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module. Active deployment requires reconnecting the upper and lower shrouds while installing the cpa to the yellow 2-way wiring harness connector at the Steering Column base before turning on the sir system.

  The sir system must be disabled before starting the process to replace the air bag clock spring. Start by removing the Steering Wheel from the Steering Shaft before pulling the tilt lever straight out to detach the tilt mechanism. First take out the two torx(R) head screws that secure the lower shroud before removing it from the vehicle. Start by removing the two torx(R) head screws holding the upper shroud in place before taking the upper shroud off. Start by detaching the wire harness straps from the wire harness before removing the retaining ring along with the air bag clock spring from the Steering Shaft. Throw out the old coil if you want to replace it. To install the air bag clock spring position the Steering Wheel at the forward stance while applying the block tooth and centering mark to the 12 o'clock position. Installation of the new air bag clock spring must start with pre-dispensing centering steps. Leave the centering tab on the new air bag clock spring throughout the installation process. Take steps to center the air bag clock spring only when necessary. Place the air bag clock spring assembly next to the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly before sliding the new coil onto the Steering Shaft assembly and tightly seating the retaining ring into the assembly groove. The user should remove the centering tab from the new air bag clock spring before discarding it. Seal the upper shroud into position using two torx(R) head screws and tighten them to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Secure the lower shroud into place by using two torx(R) head screws at 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) while making sure the lower shroud tabs match up with the upper shroud tabs. Drive vehicle with tilt column until you can lock the tilt lever handle in place within the steering column. Feed the wiring through the Steering Wheel before aligning it with the Steering Shaft mark then tighten the shaft nut to 41 n.m (30 lb ft). Install the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module last then activate the sir system.
