Q: How to replace the power vacuum brake booster on Cadillac Escalade?
A: Begin the booster replacement by turning off the ignition switch then press and release the brake pedal to elimiantate vacuum reserve. Unplug the electrical connector and take off each piece of the vacuum sensor together with its hose to set them apart. Keep the brake pipe fittings connected when you loosen Brake Master Cylinder nuts and hold the unit up firmly with mechanics wire. Look for damage on the o-ring seal of the master cylinder and order a replacement if see signs of damage. Take out the Brake Booster pushrod retainer bolt first and then the retainer to disconnect it from the stoplamp switch electrical supply. To access the vacuum brake power booster remove its clamps and detach the pushrod from the brake pedal socket before pulling out the booster while discarding the gasket. Install a new ring on the vacuum booster first then position the booster and torque its nuts to 33 nm (24 lb ft). Install the Brake Booster pushrod on the brake pedal pin followed by the stoplamp switch and its electrical connector. Use a 10 nm torque value (89 lb-in) to fasten the Brake Booster pushrod retainer and bolt . When taking off the o-ring seal, mount it back onto the master cylinder body, fit the master cylinder against the booster and torque the Brake Master Cylinder nuts to 33 nm (24 lb ft). When needed a tiny amount of denatured alcohol would simplify connecting the parts. Reattach the power Brake Booster vacuum sensor equipment as well as the vacuum hose while plugging the electrical sensor connector back in.
