How to replace the Upper Steering Column Bearing on Cadillac Escalade?

First, you need to remove the Steering Column to replace the upper part of the Steering Shaft bearing. Next, remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil, as well as the turn signal multifunction switch and ignition lock cylinder case. Then take out the tilt spring and the auto transmission control as well. With the aid of compressor (J 23653-SIR) and adapter (J 42137), pull out and discard the Steering Shaft lock plate retaining ring. Remove the Turn Signal Switch cancel cam position plate , turn signal switch cancel cam , steering shaft upper bearing spring , steering shaft upper bearing inner race seat , and Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race from the Steering Column shaft assembly. Take out the two pivot pins from the Steering Column tilt head assembly using remover (J 21854-01). Install the tilt lever into the Steering Column tilt head assembly, pull back on the tilt lever, and pull the Steering Column tilt head assembly down and away from the Steering Column. Disassembly Steering Column tilt head replacing Steering Shaft upper bearing. Take out anti-rotation pin (J 42640) and the tilt lever, replace the Steering Shaft upper bearing from the Steering Column tilt head. During installation, capture the Steering Shaft upper bearing on the Steering Column tilt head assembly, and thereafter, install the Steering Column shaft assembly. Maneuver and push the Steering Column tilt head assembly in the direction of Steering Column to lock the steering wheel lock shoes. Lubricate the pivot pins with gm p/n 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723), and firmly seat each pivot pin into the Steering Column tilt head assembly, staking the Steering Column at three locations around each pivot pin. Install anti rotation pin (J 42640) and then work the following components onto the Steering Column shaft assembly. Lubricate the Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race with gm p/n 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516), install Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race, inner race seat, spring, lubricate Turn Signal Switch cancel cam with gm p/n 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529), install Turn Signal Switch cancel cam, position plate. Last but not least, install the new Steering Shaft lock plate retaining ring onto the Steering Shaft using compressor (J 23653-SIR) and adapter (J 42137), then the automatic transmission control assembly, tilt spring, ignition lock cylinder case, turn signal multifunction switch, inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil, and the Steering Column.
