Cadillac XLR Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power vacuum brake booster on Cadillac XLR?
A: Before working on the power vacuum Brake Booster you must first turn off the ignition and exercise the Brake Pedal many times until the brake feels firm. Remove the battery negative connection and brake fluid sensor's electric connector. Disconnect the vacuum Brake Booster check valve from the power vacuum Brake Booster and place it by the side. Fix the master cylinder in position using heavy mechanics wire without disconnecting the brake pipe fittings. To reach the Brake Booster pushrod clevis pin you need to take out the knee bolster panel and remove the pin's retainer piece plus clevis pin. Take off the power vacuum Brake Booster nuts and booster unit while moving it left and right to free its threaded studs. After that, remove the gasket for inspection. Install the brand new power vacuum Brake Booster and gasket onto your vehicle but do not over-torque the booster nuts to 27nm (20lbft). Secure the Brake Booster pushrod clevis pin first to pedal an then to pushrod before applying the retainer which must engage fully. Secure the master cylinder to the booster by tightening the master cylinder nuts at 18 nm holding force. Reestablish the vacuum Brake Booster check valve connection before you install the radiator surge tank. Reconnect the electrical adapter for the brake fluid level indicator before connecting the negative end of the battery.
