2008 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power vacuum brake booster on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: Start your replacement work by disconnecting the battery negative terminal. Unplug the Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connector then take out the coolant surge tank. Position the master cylinder aside after lifting it out from the Brake Booster through its nut connections without breaking brake fluid lines. Remove the instrument panel lower trim panel after detaching the booster check valve hose connection to the vacuum Brake Booster. First unscrew the retainer and washer from the Brake Pedal before taking out the Brake Pedal pin and pushrod. After that remove the mounting nuts and washers between the Brake Booster and its studs. Remember that push-on nuts retain the Brake Booster to the cowl. To extract the booster from its position in the cowl you must slide it back and forth to unlatch the mounting studs from their push-on nuts before pulling it straight out. Check the booster seal and its contact points for damage before replacing it when you extract the units from their cowl position. Place the Brake Booster seal in front of the dashboard before installing Brake Booster mounting nuts with washers through the booster studs and tightening them to 19 lb ft (27 N.m). Fit the Brake Booster pushrod across the Brake Pedal and put the pedal retention parts together. Rotate the retaining part until it locks securely. Put back the instrument panel lower trim before you attach the vacuum hose to the Brake Booster check valve and fit the master cylinder on top of the Brake Booster secured with mounting nuts at 29 n.m (21 lb ft). Plug in the electrical connector to the Brake Fluid Level Sensor before installing back the coolant surge tank and connecting the battery negative terminal. Complete the transmitter setup according to specifications.
