2008 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: Before starting the pad replacement inspect brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir until the level drops to the mid-point between maximum and minimum marks. Lift the vehicle and take out the tire and wheel components from their slots. You must use hand strength to secure the rotor onto the hub through wheel lug nut. Push the brake caliper towards the steering knuckle using a large c-clamp with the ends touching the caliper body behind it. Place either an old Brake Pad or a wood block against the pistons and turn the screw clockwise to push the caliper past the rotor when the pistons are fully compressed. Put the wire jack through the guide pin bolt hole to maintain safe brake hose functionality while you remove the body caliper from its upper position. Lower the caliper and examine the Brake Pad retainers while taking off the brake pads. Look for damage on the caliper slide boots and replace them when needed. Put back the large c-clamp to fully compress the caliper pistons before taking both it and the last Brake Pad or wood block out. Stand the brake pads in place but keep the Brake Pad wear sensor in its right spot while you put the new brake pads with retainers. Squeeze the caliper into position and lock it with the upper guide bolt by turning it to 31 n.m (23 lb ft). Put the wheel and tire back on then lower the vehicle. Without starting the engine press the Brake Pedal until it reaches 2/3 of its range and release it slowly. Press the brake several times until the pedal turns firm to seat the brake caliper pistons and pads properly. Complete brake system functionality by putting brake fluid to its designated mark while running a smoother pad and rotor operation.
