- Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on 2007 Cadillac XLR?A: You can proceed with rear disc Brake Pad replacement when the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir stands at mid-point between its limits because no fluid needs to be drained. After lifting the car position the rotor hub with a tire by squeezing one wheel lug nut lightly rest the worn brake caliper on its backside and push it down with both ends of a c-clamp until its pushrod moves easily through the rotor while an old Brake Pad or wood block prevents the piston from retreating. Set the c-clamp aside before pulling out the guide pin bolts on the brake caliper. Rest the caliper on mechanic wires to keep the hydraulic hose safe. Keep the brake caliper attached to its bracket and support it safely in place before taking out brake pads and reviewing pad retainers. Begin installation by looking for damage on the caliper slide boots and replacing them when needed. Next put the large c-clamp in place to force the caliper piston all the way into the cylinder before taking off both parts. Put Brake Pad retainers back in their place and install new brake pads following the correct placement of the Brake Pad wear sensor. Put back the brake caliper to its bracket followed by mounting the guide pin bolts at a torque of 31 n.m (23 lb ft). Put back the tire and wheel system then let the vehicle down. You can start the job when the engine is off by pressing the brake pedal to 2/3 its range before releasing it slowly. Keep pushing on the brake pedal until the pedal becomes firm because the process seats the piston assemblies of the caliper onto the pads. When complete top up the brake master cylinder reservoir to its proper fill line and ready the brake system by running the pads and rotors.
