  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
    A: Before starting this task make sure you release the parking brake and lift the vehicle up with supports. Pull out both tires and wheels to disconnect the park brake cable at its apply lever. Adopt a c-clamp to push against the Brake Caliper Piston for the piston to move away from the Brake Disc. Once done you can remove the clamp. Keep the hydraulic brake hose safe from damage by attaching it with strong mechanic wire during brake caliper support. First eliminate the caliper bracket bolts while also leaving the brake flexible hose attached. Then dismount the joint bundle of caliper and bracket keeping the hose free from strain. Trace the Brake Disc setup on the wheel studs and remove it carefully; but if this is hard to do take the rotor removal tool (J-46277) and slide hammer with adapter (J 2619-01) to help detach the disc. Test and replace faulty parts in the park brake system when required. Before installation you must use the wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A) to clean the hub/axle flange and the rotor resurfacing kit (J 41013) to clean the Brake Disc. Install the Brake Disc after reattaching the park brake cable and readingjusting the park brake shoe clearance. Also normalize the disc orientation through the matchmark. Check the lateral runout of the mounted disc system and make necessary adjustments when measurements exceed set limits. Complete the process by placing the brake caliper and bracket set, adding the wheel and tire components, setting the vehicle at ground level, and perform pad and disc burnishing when necessary.
