2007 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: First, support the vehicle and raise it, before taking off the rear tire and wheel assembly. Wipe off any dirt from the brake hose and brake pipe fitting, and cover the end of the brake pipe fitting with a rubber cap or plug to keep fluid in and keep out contaminants. Apply a back up wrench and remove the brake piping from the hose fitting, then put a cap or plug over the end of the brake pipe fitting so that it doesn't bend. Take off the brake hose retainer from the hose bracket, and then pull the brake hose out from the bracket. Then, take out the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and carefully release the brake hose from the brake caliper, making sure to get rid of the two copper gaskets. Put new copper gaskets on the brake hose, attach the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt to the gaskets, and screw the assembly onto the brake caliper, turning the bolt until it's tightened to 45 n.m (33 lb ft). Join the brake hose to the bracket, keeping it straight, and then put the retainer over the brake hose fitting on the bracket. Take off the rubber cap from the pipe fitting and connect the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose using a back up wrench, making sure you tighten it to 18 n.m (13 lb ft) and do not bend the bracket or pipe. Then, put the tire and wheel back onto the car, flush and bleed the brakes, and lower it to finish.
