2007 Cadillac XLR Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: You need to lift and stabilize your vehicle while disconnecting the tire and wheel parts before working on the front brake hose. Properly clear any surface dirt from the brake hose and pipe fitting before sealing the open pipe fitting end with rubber protection to eliminate fluid loss and contamination. Place a back up wrench on the hose fitting while using another tool to disconnect the brake pipe from the brake hose. Then seal the empty brake pipe fitting end without harming the brake pipe or bracket. To access the brake hose you need to take out its retainer from the bracket first then pull off the hose from its mounting point. Pull out the brake caliper inlet bolt and brake hose from their location at the caliper. Dispose the 2 copper gaskets stuck on the brake caliper or hose end. Install two brand new copper brake hose gaskets into the brake hose before clipping the inlet fitting bolt onto the brake hose. Then connect the assembly to the brake caliper and torque down the bolt to 45 n.m. Install the brake hose to the hose bracket first and then install the retainer onto the brake hose fitting at the bracket using proper technique. Move the rubber brake pipe fitting cap off first then attach the pipe end to the hose using a back up wrench and fasten it at 18 n.m (13 lb ft) torque without touching the bracket or pipe. Place the tire wheel back on restore hydraulic brake system functioning then lower the vehicle.
