• Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Cable Front on 2007 Cadillac XLR?

  A: Before moving forward with the replacement of the parking brake front cable the vehicle needs to be positioned with its park brake pedal fully returned and supported by means of a lift. Detach the rear park brake cables from the left and right park brake actuators while gently pulling down on the front cable which is positioned below. Rear cables from the equalizer need disconnection through the left and right connections followed by the removal of the front cable from its bracket position. Lower the vehicle then remove the passenger seat combined with the lh lower closeout panel followed by the instrument panel cluster (IPC). First remove the passenger carpet from its position near the console and disassemble the grommet from the Floor Pan before taking out retainers throughout the cable route path. First disconnect the nut bolts from the park brake assembly before unhooking the park brake switch and release solenoid electrical connectors. Set the park brake actuator cable tensioning spring in position and fasten it before pulling out the front park brake cable from the park brake pedal assembly. To install the new cable begin by passing it through the passenger side compartment above the tunnel below the hvac case before inserting it to the park brake pedal assembly while also gearing the grommet toward the Floor Pan. Position the retainers which run along the cable path before fastening them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). After that move the passenger carpet into position. Next raise the vehicle to install the front cable onto its bracket while routing left and right rear cables to the equalizer. Restore the rear park brake cables to attach them to the left and right park brake actuators. Then lower the vehicle while releasing tension from the cable tensioning spring. Install the park brake pedal assembly after placing its retaining hardware and tighten all components to a torque of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Start by reconnecting both the park brake release solenoid and switch electrical wires and replace the ipc along with the lh lower closeout panel and passenger seat. The park brake system operation must be verified by applying and releasing the pedal two to three times.
